As a Republican, there are a number of questions I asked myself before issuing my support for a Presidential Candidate. The answers to these questions all lead back to documents I have read so many times before, The Bible, the US Constitution, the Republican platform, creed and principles. These documents form the foundation of my beliefs as a Christian, an American and a Republican.
Is the American Dream still alive today? Yes, and Marco Rubio is the perfect example. Our children deserve a future where who and where you came from doesn’t determine where you can go or what you can be. This generation deserves the opportunity to see that with hard work, determination, initiative and faith in God they too can achieve the American Dream. Marco Rubio is the American Dream I want my children to believe in.
It is important that our next President understand the struggles of families like mine. Marco Rubio and his wife Jeanette, aren’t flying around the country on their leer jet, going on vacations costing millions of dollars, or spending thousands of dollars gold leafing their homes. They're a real family living on a budget, struggling with debt, paying off student loans, buying their own groceries and shuttling kids to school and soccer. Rubio’s family lived pay check to paycheck so he understands what it means to live that way. Deroy Murdock said it best, “Rubio’s humble roots and modest circumstances may be his most powerful defense against Clinton.” That’s the kind of “real” person I want to represent me and the kind of American I want running this country.
To win back the white house from the democrats, all factions within the GOP must come together and find common ground. Marco Rubio was the Tea Party’s candidate when he ran in 2010. While having all of the credentials the ultra-right desires, he is also politically savvy enough to know which battles to fight to the death and which ones are not worth falling on the sword over. His ability to cooperate with others and work together should satisfy the realistic side of the party. The “establishment” wants someone who has a vision for this country and behaves like an adult. If all sides keep an open mind, Rubio’s vision and aspiration could reunite the Republican Party and give all factions the hope they so desperately seek from an effective President.
Stalemates, name calling, pitching fits and insults don’t work on the hill. The President has to be respected and able to work with others to get things done. While Rubio’s credentials suit the tea party, they have not prevented him from working well with others to enact necessary legislation and being an effective legislator. Marco Rubio is the only candidate still in the race who can work with Washington and make it work for the American People.
There was no shortage of good men in the GOP field. While one had issues remembering the books of the Bible, they all had a basic understanding of the Judeo-Christian values on which our country was founded. In his announcement, Marco Rubio quoted Joshua 1:9 but that wasn't the “it” I needed. Still looking for a servant leader, I found a video of Marco Rubio at a town hall discussing his walk with Jesus Christ. In the video, he off the cuff, confidently and humbly discussed the Bible and his personal relationship with Christ. Marco Rubio’s genuineness and honestly in those moments when he gave his testimony lead me to understand that he was the servant leader this country needs.
A wise political advisor once told me, “You can’t change anything unless you get elected.” Every single poll shows that Marco Rubio is the only Republican candidate who can defeat Hillary Clinton in the Fall of 2016. To confirm these findings, I called a few national political advisors and scientist types. Every one of them said “The only Republican candidate currently in this race who has a viable path to the White House, and can beat the Democratic Nominee, is Marco Rubio.”
My friends, yesterday is over, tomorrow is a new day and my generation is ready to face the challenges of leading this country into a new century. With this election, we will answer the question “What kind of country will we be?” The decisions we make and the answers we give are about to change not only our lives but those of our children and grandchildren. I encourage you to join me and make the right choice and elect Marco Rubio to be the person to lead us into the new American century.
